A gentle tour of Clarity

Silent, with captions on screen. Space plays or pauses, R restarts, M mutes, and the arrow keys skip five seconds. Read the captions as text.

"Aphasia affects over one million Americans. Many are immigrants, far from their first language. Clarity meets each person where they are, in 16 languages, in the words their mind still knows."

Built around real lives, not textbooks

📵

Fully offline, truly private

Every word, every exercise, every session runs entirely on-device. Zero network calls, zero third-party code — your data never leaves your phone. Reliable in hospitals, care homes, and anywhere connectivity is limited.

🌍

16 languages, one app

English, Spanish, Hindi, Gujarati, Chinese, Farsi, Korean, Vietnamese, Arabic, Portuguese, Tagalog, Punjabi, Armenian, Japanese, French, and Amharic — each adapted for its community, with native speaker review in progress. Switch languages in one tap from the Profile tab. Full right-to-left support for Farsi and Arabic.

🎯

30+ exercises per language

Covering language skills, cognition, and functional daily living. Sessions are short, varied, and gently adaptive so fatigue never becomes a wall.

🎚️

Adapts as you improve

Clarity quietly adjusts difficulty across all 16 languages — no settings to fuss with, no numbers to track. A short Baseline Assessment on first run sets the right starting point automatically. Progress insights adapt to the goal: recovery-oriented for stroke and TBI, stability-oriented for progressive conditions like Alzheimer's and FTD.

🛡️

Built for caregivers too

A PIN-protected Caregiver Mode gives family members and clinicians access to manual difficulty controls, therapy notes, goal setting, and a full exportable PDF progress report. Local notifications keep patients on track: a daily practice reminder, a streak-at-risk nudge if they haven't practised by evening, and a welcome-back message after a few days away.

⚡

5 questions per session

Brief by design. Five thoughtfully chosen questions per session respect the energy levels of recovering patients, while building a consistent daily habit without overwhelm.

🏆

Progress you can see

Streaks, badges, and a calendar view make practice feel rewarding. Seven achievement milestones mark real progress, from first session to 30-day streak.

🎲

Surprise Me

One tap on the Surprise Me button launches a random activity. Perfect for caregivers looking for a quick, low-friction session with a loved one.

📱

Today's practice on your Home Screen

The Clarity widget shows your current streak, today's recommended exercise, and your weekly goal right on your iPhone Home Screen. One tap launches straight into the activity — no hunting through the app.

📺

Play together on Apple TV

Two-player mode lets two people take turns on the same Apple TV using one remote — a natural fit for a caregiver and patient practicing side by side. All 16 languages, all exercise types, no extra setup.

🧭

Recovery or Maintenance framing

Caregivers choose whether progress is read as recovery (stroke, TBI) or maintenance (progressive conditions), and can mark that day-to-day ups and downs are expected. Insights follow that choice.

📊

Caregiver insights

Plain-language trends by exercise type, with a clear note that Clarity is a practice tool, not a medical device.

🎙️

Speak your answers

On iPhone, open-ended questions can be answered by voice using on-device speech recognition, in the languages your iPhone supports.

🔠

Large text and VoiceOver

Text follows your Dynamic Type setting, and key screens are labelled for VoiceOver.

📅

Today card

Day, date and time of day on the Home screen, in your language, to help with orientation.

🔢

Number skills

Hear a time, price, phone number or date, then pick it or type it. Practice your own phone number, kept only on the device.

🧠

Remember It

Caregiver-set personal questions practised with gradually longer pauses, with a quick activity while you wait.

🔍

Visual scanning

Find-the-target grids with an in-order practice mode and a left-edge marker.

💬

Hints and fewer choices

Step-by-step word-finding hints and a caregiver setting for 2, 3 or 4 answer choices.

📖

Reading passages and conversation cards

Short passages with read-aloud, look-back and hints, plus topic cards for two people to talk together (English first).

⏰

Second daily reminder

Add a second reminder time, for example after lunch.

For patients, families, and clinicians

01

People living with aphasia

Daily practice in short, manageable sessions — for people recovering from stroke or TBI, and for those living with FTD, primary progressive aphasia, Alzheimer's, Lewy body dementia, or MCI, where maintaining language function is the goal.

02

People with early FTD

Gentle cognitive exercises designed to support patients in the early stages of frontotemporal dementia, with content that is engaging without being frustrating.

03

Family caregivers

The Surprise Me button and quick 5-question sessions make it easy to sit down with a loved one and work through exercises together, without any preparation. On Apple TV, two-player mode lets you both take turns on the same screen using one remote.

04

Speech-language clinicians

A free, offline supplemental tool for use between therapy sessions. Per-exercise difficulty controls and anonymous research data export make it easy to fit into a clinical workflow.

Four steps to start practicing

1

Set up your profile

Enter your name, choose your diagnosis, pick your preferred language, and select an avatar. A short Baseline Assessment then sets your starting difficulty automatically — or skip it and dive straight in.

2

Pick an activity

Browse by section — Language, Cognition, or Functional Skills — or hit Surprise Me to let the app choose for you.

3

Complete 5 questions

Answer at your own pace. Immediate, gentle feedback after each answer. See your score at the end and celebrate with confetti on a perfect round.

4

Build your streak

Come back tomorrow to extend your streak. Earn badges for milestones and watch your progress calendar fill in over time.

Free, private, and never for sale

Free, with nothing to unlock

No price, no subscription, no in-app purchases and no ads. Everything in the app is included.

Your data is never sold

Clarity has no accounts and makes no network connections. What you practise stays on your device. It is never collected, never shared and never sold.

Not a business

Clarity is not built to make money. It is a personal project, made to help the people practising and the families beside them.

About my mom

My mom and me sitting together on a stone bench

My Mother has been a shining light in our family, extended family and our community for as long as I’ve lived. From the library of Mater Dei High School to the aqua aerobics class at any number of LA Fitnesses, 12+ person sleepovers to pizza parties in the park, she is loved anywhere someone is lucky enough to meet her. She’s the type of person to make friends with you while you’re standing in a line, and it doesn’t even have to be that long. When my father’s colleague casually mentioned that spicy food helps induce labor, and his wife was past her due date, Mom invited them both over and made the spiciest meal I’ve ever had from her kitchen; 12 hours later, the wife was in labor.

That’s honestly just one of a million stories I could tell, but the truth is, if you knew my mom you had your own stories and cherish them as I do mine. Her warmth and kindness was only matched by a stern tone when stepping out of line. The volume of her voice is the reason why everyone in our bloodline has to be told to quiet down all the time. Her disease may have robbed her of a lot, but the booming laughter and love she exudes will never diminish. We hope this app helps you hold onto those special parts of your loved ones as well.

About me

I set out to create Clarity as an easy, fun, low-pressure way for my mom to exercise her mind while she deals with Frontotemporal Dementia. With the help of some AI coding tools, I was able to make something she can use every day in order to help keep her mind active. Now, I’d like to share it with as many people as possible and try to allow families to keep their loved ones as long as they can.

I have no monetary goals with this app. I never will advertise, never will sell data, and never will use this app for my own personal financial gain. I set out to help people, and my mom would whoop my ass if I strayed from my morals.
